Gambanan is nature based tourism at its best.
Explore the local marine life in the traditional fish trap. Cast a line into the deep water trench off the rocks and hook a bluebone, trevally or even a barracuda. Enjoy the crystal blue waters and white sands of squeaky beach or just relax and watch the abundant birdlife of the surrounding bush.
A perfect base from which to explore the best of the Dampier Peninsula, this amazing location also is the gateway to the spectacular islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago with known attractions such as Waterfall Reef and Horizontal Falls.
FISHING
Land Based
The fast moving tidal waters around Gambanan’s headland make it a feeding ground for all types of marine life. The fishing at Gambanan is excellent and the Davey family will happily share some of their local fishing knowledge on the best land based fishing locations. On neap tides rocky areas around the head land produces Trevally, Queenfish, Barracuda and Mackerel. There is also good reef fishing for Coral Trout, Emperor and Tuskfish.
STAIRCASE
to the Moon
FROM APRIL TO OCTOBER
Gambanan is one of the few places where you can witness the lunar phenomenon ‘staircase to the moon’. This is when the full moon rises, and the reflection off water trapped in the mud ripples, creating the illusion of ‘steps’ from the earth to the moon.
This spectacular event only occurs on a full moon and only from April to October
